Giving Tuesday - Who We Are
Help Us Raise $100K This Giving Tuesday.
We’re not just a church. We’re a movement, rooted in the heart of Oakland, driven by the belief that Jesus’ love and life transforms everyone. We are EIKON CHURCH OAKLAND, a community passionately committed to empowering the lives of the poor, the captive, the blind, and the oppressed—those who need God’s love the most. Our mission isn’t confined to Sunday services; it lives and breathes through the streets of Oakland, in our actions, and in the lives of the people we serve.
We exist to see hope and transformation come to life through action. And this Giving Tuesday, we are asking you to join us as we continue to build this movement of change in our city. We have set an ambitious goal to raise $100,000 to support our transformative projects and meet the urgent needs of our building so that we can continue serving our community without barriers.
Who We Are: A Church Built on Action
At EIKON, we believe in living out our faith, not just talking about it. Inspired by the words of Luke 4:18 and Isaiah 61, we exist to uplift those the world has forgotten. We are passionate, humble, and community-focused. We know the struggle is real, but so is the hope we bring. We dive into the tension and brokenness of this world and work to restore, heal, and empower.
Our calling is to build community, not around tradition but around people—the people of Oakland who are more than their circumstances, whose dreams deserve to be supported. We don’t just see people for their challenges; we see them for their potential. We live in the community we serve, where God, the church, and the world come together. And every day, we work to break the cycles of oppression, poverty, and hopelessness by addressing the root causes of brokenness through action.
Transforming Lives Through Action: Eikon’s Key Programs
Our mission is built on action. We don’t shy away from the tough issues; we embrace the tension and dive into the hard topics, walking alongside our community members as they seek hope, healing, and purpose. Here are some of the key programs making an impact in Oakland:
Infinite Christmas
Infinite Christmas is not just a seasonal event; it’s a year-round movement. In partnership with over 40 nonprofits and churches, we serve the most vulnerable by distributing shelf-stable food and home goods to those in need. Every month, we provide essential resources to approximately 1,000 individuals in our community.
This program is a testament to God’s generosity, offering resources and support to our neighbors—sharing His love and gifts beyond the Christmas season. We’re here for the long haul, walking alongside Oakland’s most vulnerable, one meal and one moment at a time.
Y.E.S. Program
Y.E.S. (Youth Environmental Stewardship) is a middle-school-focused summer program that equips students to explore their community’s environmental challenges and the beauty of creation through creative writing, environmental studies, and cultural history. These young student-researchers write poetry, fiction, and nonfiction based on their research, which helps them discover who they are, why they are here, and what their purpose is.
Through the program, these children begin to see themselves as stewards of the Earth and advocate for their community, blending their creativity with a growing sense of identity and responsibility.
Biblical Empowerment Worldview (BEWV)
The Biblical Empowerment Worldview (BEWV) is at the core of what we do. This faith-based empowerment approach challenges participants to examine their beliefs, mindsets, and behaviors in light of scripture and God’s plan for their lives. Through workshops and group discussions, participants affirm their identity, dignity, and agency, gaining the confidence to make lasting changes in their personal lives and communities.
This program doesn’t just inspire individuals—is an opportunity for participants to embrace sustainable change, empowering participants to be leaders in their own transformation, with the knowledge that they are deeply valued by God.
The Bodega & Sunday Gathering: Food & Fellowship
Every Sunday, 2505 Telegraph becomes a place for resources, food, and fellowship. Food Security Program we are able to offer a warm meal and the Bodega, our free store, is stocked with groceries. The community is free to join our Sunday Gathering where invite everyone to rest and find a sense of community through our worship service.v On Sundays, our space becomes a place where people find spiritual nourishment and companionship.
In partnership with Peninsula Food Runners, we pick up food from Whole Foods, Cardenas, Trader Joe’s, and Franklin Templeton Investments to redistribute it to those who need it most. Through this effort, we serve:
Three Oakland school sites
Hundreds of residents in local encampments and low-income housing
A transitional tiny home community for students aging out of foster care
Food distribution is about more than meeting physical needs; it’s about creating a space where dignity and hope thrive.
